UPLB renews partnership with PCC

UPLB has formally revitalized its partnership with the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) through a ceremonial signing of a Memorandum of Partnership and Cooperation in Extension and Research (MPCER) on Feb. 3.

Both institutions are set to continue undertaking collaborative efforts to strengthen the carabao research and development program of the country.

Signing on behalf of the UP System was President Danilo L. Concepcion. PCC was represented by OIC-Executive Director Caro B. Salces who signed for Senior Undersecretary Domingo F. Panganiban of the Department of Agriculture.

Chancellor Jose V. Camacho, Jr. served as UPLB’s witness, alongside PCC Regional Center Director Thelma A. Saludes who served as the counterpart.

Under the MPCER’s provisions, PCC will remain as the University’s extension arm for carabao dairy and meat production and carabao-based enterprise development. The joint extension activities will include technology transfer and delivery of animal breeding, animal health, and advisory services to various stakeholders involved in the carabao value chain.

UPLB has been hosting one of the 13 PCCs since 1994. In turn, PCC has been serving as one of UPLB’s reliable partners for development, especially with the provision of laboratory and farm assistance to support the University’s academic and research functions.

PCC has assisted several students and faculty at the Institute of Animal Science of the College of Agriculture and Food Science and the College of Veterinary Medicine through its research and experimental facilities.

The MPCER took shape through the UPLB-PCC Joint Management Committee, chaired by Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs Roberto P. Cereno, and co-chaired by Director Saludes. (Roi Mojado)
