SSO leads emergency response simulation with IHNF

The UPLB Security and Safety Office (SSO) conducted an earthquake and campus fire seminar lecture and simulation with the Institute of Human Nutrition and Food (IHNF) on Dec. 11, 2023.

Dr. Jennifer Marie S. Amparo, dean of the College of Human Ecology (CHE), opened the activity with a message where she outlined the goal of the exercise and talked about some of CHE’s upcoming initiatives. 

During the lecture proper, Jonathan D. Maliwat, special police assistant chief,  discussed the various policies of the national government regarding emergency preparedness and the implementing guidelines of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Memorandum No. 04 series of 2012 on the use of Incident Command System.

This was followed by a lecture on the basics of campus fire safety. Grizelda Marza, security officer, discussed Module 1: Legal Basis of Campus Fire Safety. Alva Marie Tirones, special policeman, led the lecture for Module 2: Campus Fire Protection System.

Pamela Mai Arquiza, special police lieutenant, discussed Module 3: Campus Fire Hydrant. Lastly, Maliwat facilitated for Module 4: Campus Fire Drill.

After the lecture discussions, all IHNF personnel proceeded to the vacant area adjacent to the office building for the simulation of evacuation, search, and rescue operations and for the demonstration of the proper use of fire extinguishers. 

The lecture and simulation activity was held in coordination with the UPLB University Health Service. SSO is headed by their director, Atty. Eric Paul D. Peralta.

Justin S. Landicho, instructor at IHNF, expressed his appreciation and commendation to SSO and to all the participants for the successful conduct of the activity.The SSO is a unit under the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs and is the official emergency response unit of the University. (Alva Marie Tirones)
