UPF-OVCCA attends SESAM-led fire drill, seminar

Members of the University Police Force (UPF) and the Community Support Brigade (CSB) of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs (OVCCA) participated in a fire drill and seminar that the School of Environmental Science and Management (SESAM) organized on 1 July 2015.

The seminar served as an opportunity to train UPF and CSB members, who will be marshaling in a series of fire and earthquake drills that the Occupational Health and Safety Standards Committee (OHSSC) of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs (OVCCA) will be holding throughout the school year.

The drills will be held among UPLB’s different colleges and units in preparation for a university-wide drill.

Dr. Decibel V. Faustino-Eslava, Dean of SESAM, invited resource speakers from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) of Los Banos. FO2 Zion William A. Maningas and FO2 Jefferson S. Samson. The resource speakers lectured on fire safety and first aid, the chemistry of fire, fire fighting techniques, first aid treatment, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and victim transport.

They also taught participants how to use a fire extinguisher through the P.A.S.S. (Pull, Aim, Squeeze, and Sweep) method.

After the seminar, a fire drill was conducted at the SESAM building to demonstrate their current fire evacuation plan.
