SSO, OVCSA join 3rd Quarter NSED 2023

The Security and Safety Office (SSO) under its director, lawyer Eric Paul D. Peralta, hosted a seminar on campus disaster preparedness and organized the 3rd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) at the Student Union building in coordination with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (OVCSA).

SSO Special Police Assistant Chief Jonathan Maliwat served as lecturer on campus disaster preparedness while Security Officer II Grizelda Marza acted as facilitator of the drill.

During the NSED, OVCSA officials and employees performed “Duck, Cover, and Hold” as an alarm sounded off to signify the occurrence of an earthquake; and participated in the safety evacuation procedures.

The participants, including a medical personnel, counselor, and a search and rescue team, simulated a mass casualty incident. They then administered first aid to the one who acted as a trauma victim.

The activity promoted disaster and calamity preparedness and response in the UPLB community.

The NSED is regularly conducted to determine readiness and preparedness in the event a 7.2 magnitude earthquake would strike the campus.

The activity was held in coordination with the Bureau of Fire Protection-Los Baños and the University Health Service. (Pamela Mai Arquiza)
