UPLB staff and students joined the civic parade that was part of the 401st celebration of the founding anniversary of Los Baños and the 15th year of the Bañamos Festival on Sept. 16.

Bañamos is an annual festival that marks the foundation day of the Municipality of Los Baños, Laguna. “Bañamos,” a Spanish word which literally means “we bathe,” highlights the fact that the town has many hot springs.

The UPLB contingent, led by the officials of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs, AVC Roberto G. Visco and VC Serlie Barroga-Jamias, walked the length of streets traversing three barangays during the parade. The parade began at the Olivarez Plaza in Brgy. Batong Malake at around 7 AM, traversed the highway on Brgy. Anos and culminated at the General Paciano Rizal Park in Brgy. Baybayin.

Representatives from various sectors, such as local government units, academe, the government agencies, the business sector, religious groups and socio-civic organizations participated in the parade.

A program honoring the outstanding citizens of Los Baños immediately followed the parade. Among this year’s awardee is Dr. Antonio J. Alcantara, retired professor who currently serves as a professorial lecturer at the School of Environmental Science and Management.

The Bañamos Festival was held from Sept. 14 to 18, with various activities conducted during each day at the town plaza. September 16 was declared as a special non-working holiday for the whole town, through Proclamation No. 29 signed by Executive Secretary Salvador C. Medialdia on Aug. 4, 2016 at the Malacañan Palace.
