UHO spearheads disaster seminar, to hold drills in all dorms

In partnership with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) of Los Banos, the UPLB Housing Office-Office of the Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs (UHO-OVCCA) initiated a fire and earthquake preparedness seminar among UHO staff, dorm residents, and members of the Alliance of Dormitory Associations (ADA), held at the Women’s Residence Hall on 19 October 2016.

According to Prof. Zoilo D. Belano Jr, chief of the UHO, the activity aimed to capacitate students and staff on the basic measures to take during disasters.

Prof. Belano also said that the seminar was the initial step in a series of individual fire and earthquake drills they will be conducting in all 11 dorms on campus that are under the management of UHO.

Led by their newly appointed municipal fire marshall Sr. Insp. Robert Bana-ag, BFP personnel taught the participants how to properly handle a fire extinguisher after the seminar.

The activity was coordinated by the Occupational Health and Safety Standards Committee (OHSSC), which is also under the OVCCA.

The BPF is the OVCCA’s partner in ensuring that UPLB is safe and prepared during instances of disaster. (Miguel Victor T. Durian, with reports from Malvin G. Biguerras and Engr. Joseph A. Pagtananan)
