UHO-OVCCA conducts fumigation in all dorms

In order to prevent the outbreak of mosquito-borne diseases in the community, the UPLB Housing Office-Office of the Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs (UHO-OVCCA) conducted a fumigation in all 10 dormitories under its management on 30 July 2016.

It was carried out in all the rooms, hallways, comfort rooms, and the immediate surroundings of the dorms. Hence, residents had to be temporarily displaced.

To make productive use of time during the residents’ displacement, the UHO spearheaded a clean–up drive, in cooperation with the Alliance of Dormitory Associations (ADA) of UPLB. Residents picked up wastes, such as plastics, bottles, papers, along the way leading to the SU building, which served as the collection center.

Afterwards, a short program and team building activity were initiated by the UHO staff and ADA members at the Student Union Building.

During the program, UHO’s newly appointed chief, Prof. Zoilo D. Belano Jr, and ADA chairperson, Ms. Justine Audrianna Maturan, highlighted the value of cooperation and team work in the stewardship of the environment.

Overall, the activities aimed to forward one of the current administration’s thrusts, which is to create an enabling environment for creativity and innovation. The activity is also aligned with the OVCCA’s current goal, which is to make UPLB clean, green, safe, secure, livable, healthy, and sustainable.

The Crop Protection Association Of The Philippines (CPAP), Philippine Association of Certified Pesticide Applicators (PACPA), Pest Control Association of the Philippines (PCAP), and the Beta Sigma Fraternity served as UHO’s partners during the activity.

UHO is planning to conduct the said activities at least twice every semester henceforth. (Miguel Victor T. Durian)
