SSO, SESAM mark Fire Prevention Month with fire lecture and drill

In observance of Fire Prevention Month, the Security and Safety Office (SSO) conducted a comprehensive fire lecture and drill at the School of Environmental Science and Management (SESAM) on March 18.

Dr. Yusuf A. Sucol, head of the SESAM Research Division, gave the welcome remarks on behalf of SESAM Dean Rico C. Ancog and welcomed the participants and guest lecturers. Dr. Sucol cited Presidential Proclamation No. 115-A, which declares March as Fire Prevention Month.

This month-long campaign included activities such as fire drills, seminars, and information dissemination campaigns to educate the public on how to prevent fires and respond effectively in an emergency.

The event was also graced by SSO Deputy Director Renee Johnson Melgar, who gave a short message on behalf of SSO Director Eric Peralta, extending his gratitude and appreciation for the active participation of SESAM in the activity.

Special Police Assistant Chief Jonathan Maliwat led the team and provided an overview of the four modules; SOII Grizelda Marza introduced the Fire Safety module; Special Policeman Alva Marie Tirones presented the Campus Fire Protection System; Special Police Lieutenant Pamela Mai Arquiza showed the locations of the fire hydrants within the campus; and Special Police Lieutenant Kristine Bernadette Matalog discussed the Campus Fire Drill.

Following the lecture, SESAM participants had the opportunity to engage in hands-on demonstrations of the proper use of fire extinguishers and water hoses of the UPLB fire truck with the supervision of trained SSO-CERU personnel.

The event concludes with a photo session with SSO and SESAM personnel. (Kristine Bernadette T. Matalog)
