OVCCA leads UPLB in LB-wide ‘Creek Clean-Up Day’

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs (OVCCA) led UPLB in its participation in the ‘Creek Clean-Up Day’ of the Municipality of Los Baños, as part of its celebration of the World Water Day on 18 March 2017.

The local government assigned each barangay in Los Baños a particular creek to clean. UPLB was assigned the upper Molawin Creek to the site of the new bridge being constructed near the St. Therese of the Child Jesus Parish.

The UPLB team was composed of volunteer staff members from the OVCCA’s units, namely the Business Affairs Office (BAO), University Health Service (UHS), UPLB Housing Office (UHO), and University Police Force.

The UP Ecology and Systematics Major Students Society (UP ECOSYSTEMSS) also joined the activity.

The team was supervised by Prof. Zoilo D. Belano Jr. (Chief, UHO), SOI Rizal C. Huelgas (Community Relations Officer, UPF), Engr. Joseph A. Pagtananan (Pollution Control Officer, OVCCA), and Dr. Antonio J. Alcantara, the designated head of the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) and retired professor from the School of Environmental Science and Management (SESAM).

The activity was also part of the OVCCA’s thrusts in making UPLB a clean and green campus through the stewardship of the Molawin Creek. (Miguel Victor T. Durian, with reports from Joseph A. Pagtananan)
