The Syensaya Wonderama is regarded to have made science more accessible to the community, particularly young learners not only within the Los Baños area but from neighboring towns and provinces. “This is one of LBSCFI’s advocacies – to prepare and guide our youth towards the love for science and technology,” said Dr. Casiano Abrigo Jr., president of LBSCFI, in his welcome speech during the opening program of Syensaya at the Copeland Gym in UPLB.

The keynote speaker, Dr. Reynaldo Ebora, PCAARRD executive director, expressed his hopes to successfully convince the youth to pursue careers in science and technology. “What better place to pursue that career, but here in Los Baños? It is the home of science and technology-based institutions.”

In his closing remarks, Dr. Primo Garcia, director of the Information Office of the UP Open University, also highlighted the importance of the younger generation pursuing careers in science. He said that the competitiveness of our S&T sector relies on a steady stream of young, dynamic and creative scientists who would continue and build on the scientific work and successes of their predecessors and peers.

The opening program also featured dance numbers from TRACE College and the Philippine High School for the Arts.

SyenSaya Wonderama Exhibit features interactive booths like DOST’s Build-A-Star booth, which lets one build a star while teaching its basic components, the Physics Department booth, which showcases different applications of different principles in Physics; and VR Philippines’ virtual reality booth where one may experience how it is like living in a virtual world.

The Wonderama exhibit is open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Copeland Gym throughout the three-day event. The Entrance fee is PhP 5.00.
